DKO’s fit-out condenses our London-based client’s brand of cool elegance into a boutique central Auckland office. With a snug area of 72m2, but an unrivalled view of the downtown Harbour, the existing space already spoke to the notion of a hidden, urban sanctuary. The design for the new office plays on this idea by infusing it with the ambience of an old-school, whiskey bar, mixed with elements of corporate London.
Upon entry, DKO’s design encourages a sense of reveal and awe, with concealed kitchen and printing pods to either side funnelling your gaze straight to the dazzling harbour views. This feeling quickly melts into a more subdued and intimate mood as the space brings you into its fold. Perimeter walls cocoon their guests in an indulgent, dark timber which softly curves at the corners and around existing columns. Meanwhile, plush green carpet of varying shades provides a luxurious ground, which is then capped by a low, silver-grey ceiling, increasing the cosy atmosphere. Rich materials, such as the buttery, caramel leather of desk chairs, sleek metal of the joinery, and marble of the meeting table, were chosen for their timelessness. Alongside the mid-century-inspired furniture, they build upon the whiskey bar narrative underpinning the concept to create a space exuding quality and style. Warm and sultry lighting complete the atmosphere, with recessed LEDs that wash up the walls and hanging, pendant lamps that divide the space into a series of intimate moments.
