The Clubhouse is a standalone building within Lifestyle Communities’ residential development in Wollert and is designed to encourage a sense of community and will be enjoyed frequented by the homeowners.
The building’s major arc form surrounds a central courtyard space flanked by wings housing an abundance of recreational amenity. At the apex of the building’s arc form sits the concierge desk acting as the main axis point and welcome zone. By centralising the welcoming area, DKO has simplified the wayfinding experience and reduced corridors, thus improving both the overall flow of the building and maximising access to views and natural light.
The DKO design team looked to the surrounding landscape for inspiration for a material palette that is quintessentially Australian. The Bluestone used in surrounding buildings convey a strong visual and historical connection between the man-built environment and the natural landscape of the region. This is the basis for the selection of blue-grey tones in the brickwork of the Clubhouse.
These hues and tones served as the foundation to continue this connectivity into the interiors. By harnessing the cool tones and rich textures provided by the bluestone in the flooring, tiles and metal finishes, DKO then incorporated complementary pops of oranges and yellows through the application of textiles, reminiscent of the native trees and wattle in the surrounding environment. The contrast of these two aspects was harmonised and balanced by understated warm grey tones in the joinery finishes and the elegant natural stone.
DKO’s design seeks to convey a sense of belonging and connection for its residents. The project reflects the bustling local community with social and wellness principles in mind. The Clubhouse is a commercial architectural form with residential detailing and materiality.
