The desire to create communities is the central concept which drives the proposal, seeking to create a space where a learning community can flourish.
In order to best facilitate positive community growth, the apartment floor plates have been divided into smaller groups which will foster a stronger sense of ownership and stronger relationships within each cluster of apartments. Stacking these apartment clusters establishes three building blocks, meaning that each block can adopt distinct identities. Social interaction is encouraged and facilitate for throughout the building with small break-out spaces attached to each apartment cluster.
A unifying ground plane has been established as a central meeting space for the different micro-communities with in the building. The ground plane is programmed with generous and varied communal spaces, which undulate with the existing slope of the site, with community activities spilling out into the central courtyard which opens out into the existing park to the north.
