University Square student accommodation redefines student life with a mature aesthetic in one of Melbourne’s key education precincts.

We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people of the  Kulin Nation, the traditional custodians of the land upon which University Square stands. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture.

Rising 13 levels above the 1920s heritage facade that once housed the E P Printing & Publishing Company, the development accommodates 242 students in a range of mini dormitories from single studios to 8-bed, shared apartments.

The development presents a design solution tailored to enhance the student experience, delivering safe, high quality dwellings that encourage social interaction.

The facility provides for different study styles – communal and individual, private and social, through strategic placement of fixed and loose furniture and is designed to allow flexibility to evolve with study practices into the future. Two glass meeting chambers and a cinema-like television zone with tiered timber seating add to the ground floor experience.

Our design response also provides a mix of accommodation typologies, including an Australian-first loft and a hybrid cross-over duplex typology – both with shared kitchens and living spaces.
