Banksia

Banksia was designed to feel like a genuine home—warm, tactile, and featuring an earthy Australian palette. Spotted Gum features prominently in both joinery and flooring, complemented by sculpted tones that enhance the distinctly Australian character of the space.

DKO’s approach to the interior design focused on creating a cohesive spatial experience rather than a series of disconnected rooms. The team rationalised the extent of finishes throughout, using timber flooring as a unifying element. The ceiling features a ribbed lining that enhances the sense of continuity. Despite working within the constraints of the defined envelope, the team crafted interiors that feel open, connected, and thoughtfully curated.

Banksia began on a site with an existing planning permit and an unconventional triangular footprint. Our team was tasked with reviewing and refining the internal space planning to enhance the living experience within these predetermined parameters. Rather than fighting against the triangular geometry, DKO embraced it as a defining design feature throughout the project.

The intentional triangulation became a consistent motif, manifesting in various elements such as the faceted island bench. By celebrating these awkward angles, DKO transformed potential constraints into distinctive design statements that give Banksia its unique character.
