The Parkville townhouses are the culmination of a deep collaboration between DKO, Oliver Hume Property Funds, Carr Design Group and landscape architect, Jack Merlo.
The project includes 20 individually-titled homes bound between the prestigious Royal Parade, The Avenue and the Capital City Trail in Parkville. Utilising each varying view and aspect, the overall design is sympathetic to its park-side location and pays homage to the unique Victorian terraces of the area.
Externally, the restrained use of materials results in a timeless appeal. Stone and textured off-white walls coupled with bronze and timber detailing help to achieve a classic but modern elegance.
The project embraced a design philosophy which placed an emphasis on delivering valuable spaces throughout each home. Inspired by how the future homeowners will live, each home is made up of a series of spaces designed with specific functions in mind. There’s an expansive living area on the ground floor, as well as a second living space inside the master retreat above; there’s multiple study spaces and select residences feature a swimming pool, complete with integrated daybed and lounge area. Reaching all five floors – from the wine cellar to the private rooftop terrace – the central stairwell becomes a focal point and helps to draw light deep into the home, heightening the feeling of grandeur.
“We have placed an emphasis on trying to plan as many sun-soaked places as possible, so you can sit indoors or outdoors and enjoy the sun year-round.” Says DKO Principal, Koos de Keijzer. “This includes employing a high degree of glazing and screening techniques.”
Befitting of its prestigious location, every detail has been carefully selected for its blend of craftsmanship and durability. A sense of harmony and balance is achieved through the use of a muted, yet opulent, material palette. Marble imported from Italy is an example of some of the many fine touches that make this project so distinguished and unique. It’s fair to say that each space has been carefully crafted, resulting in homes that are as functional as they are beautiful.
