A distinctive corner site in Melbourne’s premier bayside location sets the ground rules for this iconic family residence.

Materiality was chosen to be simple yet respectful of context and we were keen to have a zinc box on the corner site to really celebrate that position but also to moderate the scale of the house and break it into two pavilions.

Materials chosen will weather well with time and when zinc patinas it will become even more striking.  Internally, reflective surfaces including glass, stainless steel, mirror and Calcutta marble create a robust play of light during the day.  A timeless aesthetic is ensured – strongly supported by considered fixtures and finishes, understated lighting and neutral pallet.

This is not a pretentious house where form overpowers function.  Matters of function were critical in the design process – a home must first of all be liveable and practical.  The design of the Brighton Residence meets this brief very well.  The family can come together in the central hub of a downstairs living area beautifully serviced by the open-plan kitchen.  This area in turn spills out through extensive bi-fold glass doors onto the pool and outdoor entertaining precinct.
