Dwellings27
All aspects of Habitus South have been carefully considered and design driven. Spanning five floors, each of the 27 townhomes will offer expansive living spaces, luxurious sleeping accommodation and roof decks with spectacular views across South Melbourne and beyond.
Habitus will combine bronze aluminium detailing with precast concrete, dark brick and shadowy textured timbers to pay homage to the locality’s industrial pedigree. Strong saw-tooth roof forms draw inspiration from surrounding warehousing with integrated landscaping creating a verdant inner-urban escape. Habitus’ expansive ground floor spaces were envisaged to accommodate a range of uses from SOHO to gallery, man-cave to parlour. Bi-fold doors establish a theatrical experience, framing the residents’ car as objet d’art.
The design of the Habitus interiors palette references the history of Emerald Hill and the volcanic soil in which it grew, through the use of natural, tactile materials. Monolithic stone slabs balance on finely detailed timber joinery in a unique expression of pragmatic sculpture. Bathrooms have been designed as luxurious spaces of retreat, combining sumptuous natural stone with smooth joinery and sleek black metal details. Elegant fluted glass will be used extensively to provide residents with complete privacy, while not compromising on transmission of natural light.
Each of Habitus’ three townhome types has been designed with its own unique architectural character. The interrelated building forms harmonise through a strong, expressive masonry base and a shared vocabulary of materiality and proportions to create a multifaceted, signature streetscape.
